Kazdanga castle and the manor house complex (Katzdangen) has been owned by the rich and politically influential barons of Kurzeme – Manteifeļi. Kazdanga castle was built in classicism style in the beginning of 19th century by the famous west European architect J. G. Berlic.
Castle parka and the millpond. The making of the park started in 19th century’s beginning as a landscape park with all kinds of walking paths and a bridge system. Currently the Kazdanga park is one of the biggest by size( 173 hectares) and dendrologically richest Latvian manor house parks. Two circle crosses can be found in the park – each on their own side of the millpond. There are a lot of ponds in Kazdangas park, because Kazdanga was the first place in tsarist Russia, where around 1870 fish-breeding was started. The millpond is also flooded on the Alokste river.
