On August 8 and 9, Aizpute will not only celebrate a festival but an entire era, as the town marks its 777th anniversary. This is more than just a number – it’s a story brought to life across various locations by musicians, artists, mimes, and illusionists.

Soviet-Era Doll Collection

The collection includes stylized dolls in folk costumes manufactured by the Latvian factory “Straume,” and rubber toys produced by Dobele factory. The largest part of the collection consists of dolls made in Russia and East Germany.
The collection was created by local amateur theatre actress Valda Jēriņa, who rescued various dolls from being discarded and dressed them in traditional folk costumes from the Aizpute region, Soviet-era school uniforms, and fantasy outfits inspired by theatrical performances.
In addition, the exhibition includes photographs from local photo albums that depict everyday life and celebrations during the Soviet era. There is also a selection of printed envelopes and vintage Soviet-era games.

Water tower is open!

Aizpute`s water tower has officially opened the doors, which for tourism purposes has been rebuilt as a viewing tower, with the highest point of the roof being 27m.
